The actress even tried the Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn’s diet. Throughout her diet schedule to lose weight, Dr. Caldwell avoided her favorite indulgence. But to avoid consuming dairy, cheese, cheeseburger, and the steak was nothing but a pain in the arse for O'Donnell.

Unfortunately, despite being on a strict diet, O'Donnel's weight loss success was far from finished. Not a single positive result was found. Matter of fact, going vegan was something she couldn't continue to do so. And, in the end, O'Donnell decided to head for gastric bypass surgery.

Rosie O'Donnell Underwent Gastric Surgery

When there's a will, there's definitely a way. And for Rosie O'Donnell who almost quit to achieve her goal, the actress found her solace in gastric bypass surgery where the surgeon removes nearly 90% of the stomach that eventually helps in losing weight.

Rosie O'Donnell is not the only celebrity who underwent bypass surgery though. Several other celebrities including Al Roker, Roseanne Barr, Melissa McCarthy, Mama June, and Carnie Wilson, have all gone for the same technique to shed weight.

It was Dr. Trivedi who performed the surgery on the actress. Just in two years, she lost over 50 pounds and weighed near 176 Ibs from previously weighing 240 Ibs. And, O'Donnel says the Gastric surgery changed her life.

Following her heart attack and surgery journey, Rosie O'Donnell publicly supported the campaign for the American Heart Association to spread awareness on the risk of the disease and weight issue.
