Tyler Perry Was Insecure Of His Weight
Perry is known for his roles in several movies and tv series including If Loving You Is Wrong, A Madea Family Funeral, and The Haves and The Hav Nots among others. But, the actor is mostly loved for his role as Madea Heathrow, someone who loves junk food and is big.

On the contrary, despite being blessed with a great face and great height, Tyler Perry admits he was once insecure. But stepping up with his weight loss game soon changed that. Matter of fact, he was feeling better and more confident after he lost a staggering of 30 pounds.
At the premiere of Alex Cross in 2012, Perry revealed about his insecurity on weight and height both. According to him, he felt so tall of his 6 foot 6 height and stood out among everyone that he would try to hide it. But, after dropping some pounds, he was able to stand out. So, how did he do it?
Secrets to Perry's Amazing Weight Loss
There was no shortcut to Tyler Perry's tremendous weight loss results. There was no miracle involved nor any plastic surgeries such as liposuction and gastric bypass that a lot of rich people and celebrities rely on.

Yes, it was his hard work and dedication that earned him what he wanted. Exercise and diets were all Perry focused on to lose weight. Perry started to consume more protein based-diet including chicken breast, egg, ground turkey, green shakes and more.
The actor also enjoys pork chops, dirty rice, and jambalaya on his plate. Well, what's a jambalaya? Jambalaya, which is highly popular to where the actor is from is a Spanish and S. African dish made with smoked seafood, meat and rice.
Besides, Perry also divided a portion of his busy schedule to exercises. The actor hired a personal trainer and would spend a long hour of his morning doing cardio, cardiovascular workouts, body-weight moves, cable, and other physical work. Not to mention, he is also a fan of performing Krav Maga, a martial arts which was originated in Israel.
Perry Was Inspired By His Mother
The actors' mother, Willie Maxine Perry, passed away from due to diabetes in 2009. Although Perry wishes his mother had fought back the disease that killed her, Willie is what that inspired and motivated him.

Perry's mother was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 40 and had it till her last breath at the age of 64. His mother is also what inspired Perry to write 'Higher Is Waiting' which was published in 2017.
Speaking of his mother, Tyler said:
"If my mother had not talked to me about faith, about God, I don’t know where I’d be. I do know if you don’t give your kids something, then they’re going to turn to something. I’m glad she gave me faith in the hard times."
The Louisiana native, however, admitted that losing weight after turning 40 was hard for him. But, clearly, if he wasn't committed to his goals, he wouldn't have achieved any of it.
